Team Smoothy has jumped to the top of the Winter Games’ Obsidian leaderboard.

After beginning the day in third, the team used its joker card to double the 100 points it won in yesterday’s freeride competition on the WTF face of the Minaret Range near Wanaka.

It left it with 280 points overall, ahead of Team Kuzma’s 220 and Team Wells’ 180.

That notably came via Ronan Thompson and Tiarn Collins claiming the top two spots in the men’s snowboard event.

However, it was Team Kuzma that cleaned up the women’s snowboard/freeski event.

Janina Kuzma claimed first in the category, while Zoi Sadowski-Synnott — in her first top-level freeride contest — took second.

Team Wells’ Craig Murray was first in the men’s freeski, ahead of Finn Bilous (Team Kuzma) and Sam Smoothy (Team Smoothy).

The event was the second of five in the overall Obsidian competition, which is being held in lieu of the New Zealand Winter Games this year.
