Wells competed in the second heat of two heats and finished fourth, comfortably qualifying for the top eight in a strong field. The event in Font Romeu, France, is one of five World Cup meets. It begins the qualification process for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in Korea.

Fellow Wanaka up-and-comer Finn Bilous narrowly missed qualifying, finishing in ninth place.

At the first World Cup races of the Para alpine skiing season in Innerkrems, Austria, Otago skier Adam Hall had a strong start.

A technical specialist, Hall has recently began competing in the speed disciplines, as well. He came away with a fourth and seventh place in the two events in the men’s standing category.
