We have waited long enough.
Twenty-one years, 11 months and 24 days after Annelise Coberger made the breakthrough, is New Zealand poised to celebrate a second Winter Olympic medal?
No pressure, Wells boys, but a nation tonight turns its eyes to you.
Wanaka brothers Jossi (23) and Beau-James (18) Wells are in action in the freeski slopestyle at the Sochi Olympics.
Qualifying is from 7.10pm, and finals are from 10.25pm. All the action is live on Sky Sport 6.
The day they announced the new freeski disciplines - the other is halfpipe, in which Jossi and Beau-James will be joined by a third brother, Byron (21), next Wednesday - were to get Olympic status was an exciting one for the Wells family.
So, too, was it a boon for New Zealand sports fans eager to see someone emulate Coberger, whose silver in the women's slalom in Albertville, France, in 1992, sits in a lonely trophy cabinet.
Of all the New Zealand team in Sochi, the Wells boys appeal as the best medal prospects.
In the overall freeskiing world rankings, Jossi is third and Beau-James fourth. Jossi was a world champion in 2010, and won a round of the world cup in Switzerland just before the Olympics.
The brothers were looking in good shape in training, coach Tom Willmott said yesterday.
''They've had plenty of training on the course. Jossi got his run together and Beau is looking very good. Both have got a session in hand to feel things out again, maybe push it a bit more.
''They're enjoying themselves, which is when they perform their best.''
