The Chosen One will be out at Riccarton Park tomorrow to win the race his grand-dam, The Jewel, was robbed of winning.

The $500,000 group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) will be the southern-bred 3yr-old's third start.

The Chosen One is by Savabeel from handy racemare The Glitzy One, a daughter of The Jewel.

The Jewel was a fantastic winner of the 1000 Guineas in 2002 and ran second to Hustler in the 2000 Guineas. Many believe she was robbed of victory when she lost six lengths at the start because of an issue with the starting gates.

The Chosen One has a massive chance of gaining redemption for his breeders, The Dennis brothers.

The colt, to be ridden by Jonathan Riddell, will start second-favourite for tomorrow's classic after two impressive wins in lesser company for Cambridge trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman.

The Chosen One was a strong maiden winner, then proved himself over 1600m by winning last month's listed Zacinto Stakes at Riccarton.

The horse came to the country's leading trainers after being passed in at the Karaka yearling sales.

Should he win tomorrow he may leave a few bidders wondering what could have been.

"I asked Murray Baker whether he'd train him and he said he'd love to, after having trained The Phantom from the same family all those years ago," Tony Dennis told NZ Racing Desk.

"The syndicate just went from there. Our family has ended up with 40% and the rest is divided up with friends.

"It's the first time we've put a syndicate of our own together. We usually just race them ourselves.

"We tried to sell him at Karaka as a yearling and we put a $150,000 reserve on him, but he got to $130,000.

The Phantom won the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield and ran second in the 1990 Melbourne Cup for Baker.

An offer was made for The Chosen One after the Zacinto Stakes, but the syndicate has elected not to sell the smart youngster for now.

"He's quite a promising horse and will still be better in the autumn," Dennis said.

The Baker-Forsman stable has a huge hand in tomorrow's race with the favourite, Madison County, as well as Qiji Express.

The latter was narrowly beaten by Guineas counterpart Sword Of Osman in the Sarten Memorial Stakes over 1400m at Te Rapa last month.

Madison County was a beaten favourite in the same race, but flashed home out wide.

At his previous start on October 6, Madison County was a good winner of the Hawke's Bay Guineas.

He was rated a $2.80 2000 Guineas favourite with bookmakers this week.

The Chosen One was priced at $5.50 and Qiji Express was at $13.
