Love You colt fetches $100,000 more than any other yearling

A Love You colt from champion racemare One Over Kenny topped yesterday's inaugural trotting section of the national standardbred yearling sales in Christchurch.

The yearling offered by Waimate breeders Lex and Heather Williams' One Over Lodge fetched $100,000 more than any other horse offered at yesterday's sale.

The striking chestnut colt was knocked down to big spending Sydney owners Emilio and Mary Rosati, who buy under their E & M Stride banner, for $160,000.

Rosati has horses with Oamaru trotting maestro Phil Williamson and it is understood the horseman is likely to train the horse.

Williamson prepared the yearling's million-dollar trotting dam, One Over Kenny, for the first 24 of her 32 career wins.

Williamson and wife Bev also took home another colt from a mare with whom they have previously had success.

The couple purchased the first foal from talented racemare Armbro Demon.

The Majestic Son colt, who was prepared in his buyers' home area by Chris McLeod, was knocked down for $24,000.

Otago-based owners were prominent at yesterday's trotting sale.

Bill Stevenson, of Oamaru, will take home an Angus Hall colt who is a half-brother to handy trotter The Bog and the talented but injury-prone Winnie McGoogan for $18,000.

Dunedin owner Garry Clarke purchased a colt from The Bog later in the sale for $32,000.

Malcolm and Sandra Little, of Cromwell, purchased a Peak filly from Juverna for $21,000.

A Southern-bred yearling led the selling for much of yesterday's selling before One Over Kenny's colt lit up the sales ring.

Winton breeder Michelle Caig offered an Angus Hall colt from Sundon mare Sun Mist which was knocked down to Canterbury trainers Greg and Nina Hope for $60,000.

Forty-three yearlings were offered at yesterday's sale with 34 selling at a clearance rate of 79%.

Yesterday's trotting yearlings sold at an average of $26,735.
