The son of Bettor's Delight was punched forward from the gate to hold the lead and was never headed, beating the All Stars Stables pair of He Can Fly and G I Joe by 1 lengths and a neck.
Driver John Dunn never had too many concerns about getting the lead from the inside barrier draw.
''A horse that shows speed on a 26 [second] quarter around Gore should be able to get out of the gate all right and that's what he showed me,'' Dunn said.
Pressure came with 1000m to go when He Can Fly was sent forward, and G I Joe improved to sit parked, but Dunn said that was actually preferable to doing it all by himself in front.
''When someone's beside him, he's pacing well and racing good, but when he gets in front he starts to go a wee bit rough,'' he said.
''Even halfway down, he skipped clear and that's when he knocks off again, but I couldn't complain on what he's shown so far to date.''
Franco Cristiano stopped the clock at 2.02.0 for the 1700m - 0.1 sec inside the previous 3yr-old and open colts and geldings record of 2.02.1 set by Art Union in last year's sires' stakes heat.
''He's still lacking that bit of experience, but that will come to him and, hopefully, we can get enough in before [New Zealand] Cup day,'' Dunn said.
Tim Williams, the driver of G I Joe, was pleased with the third on debut for his runner.
''It's just a bit hard against the one of Johnny's that's got a bit of ringcraft under its belt but it's definitely a good starting point.
''It will take him a couple of race starts for him to work out what he's out there to do.''
Williams said He Can Fly had some issues with the final bend at Forbury Park, but ran on well for second.
''First time around the tighter track at that sort of speed, he got a bit wobbly around the last bend, but once he balanced up, he certainly made up that ground.''
