The Central Courage Syndicate's 10 year celebration later this month will be missing one of its favourite members after the death of Graham ''Toby'' Robertson on Friday.

Robertson was 101.

The Alexandra man, who was still active and driving his car just days before his death, was a founding member of the syndicate, which has chalked up 29 wins.

Robertson hit the front page of the Otago Daily Times in April 2013 when he paired up with driver Matthew Williamson for a dual sulky drive behind one of the syndicate's horses, Expressionist, at Forbury Park.

''If I hadn't hung on to it, I would have been out, I'm telling you,'' Mr Robertson told the Otago Daily Times after the race.

''But it was lovely.

''Going around the bends was a bit tricky - I thought I was going to fall out.''

His memory will live on with the Central Courage Syndicate as the syndicate's 2yr old is named Tobys Knight.

Robertson was also made a life member of the Otago Racing Club last year.

An obituary will follow.
