Jinjarango is hard to fault going in to today's Dunedin Cup - both on paper and on the track.
Dave Fahey, who prepares the Bit Chili dog with his wife, Jean, at their Balcairn kennels, said the May 2010-whelped dog was hitting his straps right now, and the box 3 draw will be an asset for Jinjarango.
''The closer to the rail the better for him. And he's in career-best form, the old fella,'' Fahey said.
Jinjarango will turn 4 next month, but the Faheys have been careful to place him strategically during his 85-start career which began with a win at Ascot Park in January 2012.
''He should be right until the end of the year at least.''
Jinjarango found himself back at the scene of his debut when he travelled to Ascot Park last week after his second placing in the Dunedin Cup heats the week before.
He was too strong over the 630m at Ascot Park, leading throughout to win, and Fahey was happy to report the son of star race bitch Winsome Ashley had thrived following his trip to Invercargill.
''He's pulled up really good and he should be a good chance of being in the first three anyway. He could go close.''
Jinjarango has hovered just below the elite dogs in the c5 grade, but has done a grand job regardless for the Pave The Way syndicate, banking almost $85,000 from his 85 starts.
Fahey does not have any races in mind if his sole representative in the Dunedin Cup gets through the race in good order.
''Not particularly. We'll take it as it comes,'' he said.
Jinjarango has thrived at Forbury Park, winning four of his seven starts. All four of those wins came in his six middle distance starts over 545m.
His box 3 statistics also add to his credentials for today, having jumped 15 times with the white rug on for seven wins.
Know Attempt's form line has tailed off in his last two starts, but he ran into trouble in his last start, jumping slowly before getting a bad bump from No Undies Sundy.
The Gary Cleeve-trained dog has won four starts from 13 runs out of box 1, and has collected the winner's cheque three times at Forbury Park.
Cawbourne Philip was an impressive all-the-way winner from box 2 in the heats on April 17, but will not have such an easy time muscling his way to the lead from box 7 today.
Fahey picked out Deanne's Fantasy (race 8) as his other good chance of the day, based on her draw of box 1.
