The son of One Cool Cat won his 1400m maiden comfortably at Omakau yesterday, putting paid to his rivals by 4 lengths. It gave McKay, who owns and trains the 3yr-old gelding, a double after Lord Yarborough won the previous race, the 2000m maiden. Bigglesworth continued to frank the form of Berenice's win at Ascot Park on December 15, as
Berenice went on to win at Waikouaiti on Tuesday, while runner-up Valiant won the Guineas prelude on Boxing Day. Bigglesworth was third to Berenice on December 15.
The Ascot Park-based McKay said there had been interest from overseas in the best-performed foal of four-win Vettori mare Vettori Tycoon.
''He's got a fair bit of interest in him, so I want to sell him,'' McKay said.
''Whoever wants him can have him. We just tolerate him. On the track, he's a professional, but in-between times he just likes to give me a hard time. He's a really smart horse.''
McKay bought the three-year-old as a weanling in 2010 for $1700 and it appears to be money well spent.
''As you can see in his races, he's very laid-back, he just relaxes. He's got a good turn of foot,'' McKay said.
''I didn't know how he'd handle the track today but One Cool Cats do tend to handle wet tracks. That's why I carried on and ran him because I thought his ability would carry on through.''
If he does not sell, McKay will head to the Gore Guineas on January 19 with Bigglesworth.
''Honestly, when you ride him, it's hard to ride something that goes as good as him and does it so easy.''
