Stalker had trekked to the North Island in September with Joint Effort for a 3210m race at New Plymouth.
Joint Effort missed the race after developing heat in a leg.
"We have been nursing her this week because of the hard ground," Stalker said.
He works the 6yr-old mare on his sheep and cattle farm.
"She is a very good stock horse. It is just her thing chasing after the sheep and cattle. It keeps her fit."
Joint Effort has won five races for Stalker, who races the 6yr-old Desert Fox mare with Cambridge breeders Stuart and Sue Murray.
Stalker took a half share in Joint Effort on the suggestion of the Murrays and that led to the name for the horse.
"Our son, Craig, was studying to be a veterinarian at Massey with the Murrays' son, Fraser.
"Fraser came south on holiday and the boys were both working horses on the farm," Stalker said. "Sue thought it would be a good way to train Joint Effort."
Stalker has had useful success as a trainer.
He won six races with Cut `N' Dry and has won with Final Cut and Tsunami Girl.
Final Cut was put down with a tendon injury this year after a win and third from two starts over hurdles.
