A nondescript 10-year-old with a club foot, inclined to get a little cranky at times, she has compiled, arguably, the ultimate losing streak.
She has gone to the races 145 times (yes, that's 145) and still hasn't won.
Yet this little bay mare has her own online fan club (60 members at last count), while bloggers with curious names like "Abit Roughouse", "Brenrox", and "Wackj" spend hours on the internet discussing her career.
In the past few days all their excited online chatter has been about her chances of ending that unprecedented run of outs when she contests the first race at Forbury Park tonight.
Not that her ever-cheerful owner-trainer-driver, Brian O'Connor is one for making rash predictions.
The 74-year-old former insurance manager from Brighton takes a realistic view of Kelly Evander's prospects in the Brylin Boyz Trot, given she has recorded just a smattering of minor placings, including two seconds, in eight seasons of racing.
"Well, it's not an easy field, but she's going as good as she's been for a while now," he said while gearing her up for a 40-minute quiet jog yesterday.
Although he doesn't have a computer, O'Connor is quietly chuffed to know Kelly Evander has attracted a following of fans, even if it is for the rather dubious reason she hasn't won a race.
And he's just as aware there are those who think he should have retired her to the broodmare paddock long before now, or who have written unflattering form lines like "her best days appear beyond her".
"It annoys me, but it doesn't upset me," he says, admitting such comments make him all the more determined the horse he named after his favourite springer spaniel ("he used to come to the races with us until he up and died when he was 14") will be retired as a winner.
O'Connor, who has tried "all the best drivers" in the past, handles the mare himself on race night and therein lies a second string to this story.
You see, in about 400 attempts so far, O'Connor has yet to drive a winner.
So, would there be quite a celebration if they both ended their droughts at Forbury Park tonight?
"I'll tear the grandstand down," he said.
