Wingatui apprentices Zubair Bholah and Corey Campbell will return to the saddle at Timaru today after extended breaks.
Bholah will ride in New Zealand for the first time after riding in New Caledonia in November.
Campbell has been out of action since April after a trackwork incident left him with broken vertebrae in his back.
The Mauritius-born Bholah arrived in Otago in February to take up an apprenticeship with trainer Steve Tyler.
He is enjoying his time in New Zealand despite the weather being in stark contrast to his previous location.
"It is a beautiful country, but cold in the morning."
Bholah rides Flicka Of Gold in race 5 and Richie Rox in race 6.
Richie Rox clashes with the horse Campbell rates as the best of his four mounts today.
The apprentice's time out of the saddle came as the result of a freak accident.
"I was riding a young horse and it spooked and reared up and landed awkwardly. It was just one of those freakish things," Campbell said.
He rides Silhouettes in race 3, Smart Garden in race 7 and Kerrytowncharlotte in race 8.
Gore chaser Tai Ho will take a significant step towards the Grand National carnival in race 4.
The Ellis Winsloe-trained 7yr-old has not started over steeples since early May and will need to build his fitness to be at his peak for his big race assignments in August.
After the Otago Steeplechase failed to get off the ground, Winsloe put Tai Ho in a maiden hurdle at Wingatui last month to keep his charge's fitness ticking over.
The horse went an excellent race for third.
Tai Ho looks exceptionally hard to beat today as he reverts back to his favoured role of steeplechasing.
Progressive jumpers The Energizer and Jackfrost clash in today's open hurdles.
