Robinson’s coach Knight steps aside

New Zealand alpine skier Alice Robinson has parted ways with head coach Chris Knight ahead of the upcoming season.

The pair, who have been together in a mentoring capacity since the Queenstown skier was a teenager, have amicably ended their partnership, with Knight looking forward to spending more time with his family, including two young children.

Knight, who has been at the centre of the women’s alpine world cup series for more than 20 years, has been an integral part of 21-year-old Robinson’s success, coaching her for the past four seasons, including five world cup podiums and three victories.

‘‘Snow Sports NZ would like to thank Chris, not only for his recent coaching stint with Robinson, but for everything he has done to foster competitive alpine ski racing in New Zealand and overseas,’’ Snow Sports NZ chief executive Nic Cavanagh said.

The organisation would continue to benefit from Knight’s knowledge, he said.

Former winter Olympics alpine skier Tim Cafe will join Robinson’s team, having coached her through her teenage years, including her FIS world junior championships victory in 2019.
