Rowing: Fauth provides inspiration

Julia Fauth (St Kevins') gave inspiration to fellow Oamaru rowers when she reached the semifinals at Lake Karapiro yesterday.

Fauth won her girls under-18 quarterfinal at the Maadi Cup regatta in 8min 31.64sec to advance to today's semifinals.

Another Oamaru sculler to advance to the semifinals was Maysie Scott (Waitaki Girls'), who finished runner-up in her quarterfinal in 8min 15.79sec.

Jack O'Leary (Kavanagh College) advanced to two single sculls semifinals by winning his quarterfinals heats. He was first in the under-17 event in 7min 30.84sec and lowered this to 7min 21.19sec when he won the under-18 quarterfinal.

His sister, Anna, reached the girls under-16 semifinals when she won her quarterfinal heat in 8min 23.05sec.

Anna O'Leary is also in the final of the girls under-18 quadruple sculls with Caitlin Buist, Hannah Duggan, Zoe McBride and cox Phoebe McBride after winning their heat.

Zoe McBride and Duggan have qualified for the final of the girls under-18 lightweight double sculls and the semifinals of the under-18 double sculls.

They have both reached the semifinals of the girls under-18 single sculls.
