Harbour has made a winning start to its season with a 26-22 win against Southern at Watson Park today.

Harbour dominated the scrums but the Magpies had a superior kicking game which helped keep it in the right areas.

Had it not been for a couple of defensive blunders, the visitors may have been able to push for an upset win.

But Harbour winger Mone Palu bagged two tries. One of them was an intercept from 70m out.

In the other games, Taieri edged University 27-24 at Logan Park. That match was a replay of last year’s final.

Green Island achieved a 24-15 victory against Alhambra-Union at Miller Park, and Kaikorai had a comfortable 36-16 win against Dunedin at Kettle Park.

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
