But the Americans have a unique way of recording that information.
The former Otago and North Otago utility forward has been plying his trade for the Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby for the past three years.
He was named in the team of the week for his 27 tackles made and 28 ruck arrivals.
Yep, you get credit for just arriving at the ruck in the United States.
Elton let out a hearty chuckle when his ruck arrivals got brought up.
"A brilliant stat, isn't it?" he joked.
It helps that they sometimes play on "soccer fields" which are shorter and not as wide.
It is enough to make you homesick.
"Um, American life is a little bit different and probably not our cup of tea," Elton said.
"And Dunedin’s a good spot, right?"
So good, Elton and his wife, Georgia, and their 3-month-old son, Beau, plan to return home to Dunedin at the end of the season in July.
Elton moved south from Auckland to attend the University of Otago as an 18-year-old.
He linked up with the Harbour premier side the following year and quickly established himself. His work rate and ability to cover lock was a huge asset for the Hawks.
He was a tireless defender and just a clever rugby player who popped up where he was needed. Those skills did not go unnoticed.
He was called into the North Otago side in 2019 and played 14 games for the Old Golds over two seasons.
He also clocked 10 games for Otago in 2020.
But when the opportunities dried up, he headed to Australia in 2022 and played for Eastern Suburbs in the Shute Shield.
It was there he met Jake Turnball, who put him in touch with the Seattle Seawolves.
This is his third season. The Seawolves have been battling a bit, but are still in the hunt for the playoffs.
They edged Utah 28-24 and beat the San Diego Legion 29-25 recently, and they have an important game against Houston this weekend.
"Yeah, beating Utah in Utah was big for us," he said.
"They've actually got a heap of Kiwis and a massive Otago connection as well. So they've got their coaches, Greg Cooper, and then they've got Liam Coltman, Aki Seiuli, Dylan Nel, and James Lentjes is also their assistant coach.
"So that was cool to go there and beat them and then also catch up with all those guys."
Elton has reached out to new Otago coach Mark Brown to let him know he is returning and will be around.
But he is not expecting a call-up.
"Otago is pretty full up in the loose forwards.
"But the plan is to spend a bit of time in Dunedin and then see how we go with rugby and things and see where that takes us."
He will arrive back too late to link up with the Hawks.
But he might be just an injury or two away from another gig with Otago.
"I'm around and available if they do need some reinforcements."
Elton might be based in the United States, but he has been keeping a close eye on the Dunedin division 1 competition and was pleased Harbour was doing better this season.
He captained the team that shared the senior banner with University in 2018.
It was an epic final in which the teams were locked 30-30 after 100 minutes of rugby.
"Yeah, that was crazy. I loved my time playing there.
"I definitely always, always keep an eye on how they're going and certain boys.
"I saw Aleki Morris played his 100th game recently, which was awesome to see because I played a lot with him over the years."
