High performance coach Jon Preston is leaving his role with the Highlanders.

Preston, in addition to his high performance and skills role, has had significant coaching roles with the Highlanders Development XV, the Brisbane 10s tournament team and helping prepare the side for their historic victory against the British and Irish Lions.

He came into the team set-up in 2012 under Jamie Joseph. It was the first professional coaching job for Preston, who played 17 matches for the All Blacks and also represented Wellington and the Hurricanes between 1993 and 1998.

He will be replaced in his role.
