Rugby: Crescent ease to win over Owaka

At Owaka, Crescent kept its chances alive for a semifinal spot by beating Owaka 39-10 after leading 19-10 at halftime.

Crescent scored seven tries.

Owaka made a good start when five-eight Gus Amotego landed an early penalty, but Crescent flanker Caleb Wall scored his ninth try of the season, through some weak tackling, and Cory Clement converted from wide out.

This was followed by a try to hooker Fatu Tatua.

Owaka's Francis Parker scored a try, which was converted and the gap closed to 12-10 in Crescent's favour.

Cory Clement was next to score and he converted to give Crescent a 19-10 halftime lead. Crescent ran in another four tries to win 39-10.

For Crescent, Caleb Wall was outstanding in the loose, while Alan Anderson and Kerian Pilkington were strong scrummagers.

In the backs, Cory Clement controlled play well at first five, Samu Vilamau was a strong runner in midfield.

Owaka's Lyndon McNab was again outstanding. Francis Parker and Gus Amotego were best of the backs.
