Rippa rugby will continue at the Edgar Centre despite the financial woes of the Otago Rugby Football Union.
The union had contacted Edgar Centre staff earlier this week, saying it was pulling out of running the rippa rugby competition.
Edgar Centre centre co-ordinator Iain Johnstone said the centre had decided to take over the running of the competition, which takes place on Mondays.
Johnstone said with 40 primary school teams involved he did not want the competition to fold as the children would lose out.
The Edgar Centre used to run a rippa rugby competition before it was taken over by the Otago union a few years ago.
