Ben Franks is the latest All Black to confirm he will head offshore following this year's World Cup.

The 30-year-old prop has signed for London Irish where he will be coached by Chiefs assistant Tom Coventry who will also join the club next season.

"I am really looking forward to joining London Irish," Franks said in a statement. "I have been to have a look around Hazelwood and was very impressed with the set up. After speaking to the board and seeing the facilities, the ambition of the club is clear."

Franks, who began his Super Rugby career with the Crusaders in 2006 but moved to the Hurricanes in 2013, was also drawn in by the family-friendly nature of London Irish.

"It is a family-friendly club which played a big part in my decision to move my family over. London Irish also has a link with St Mary's University where I will be able to study alongside playing rugby for the club. There is still work to be done in New Zealand but my family and I are looking forward to joining the club next season."

Franks joins a growing list of All Blacks who will play abroad following the World Cup, including the likes of Ma'a Nonu, Dan Carter and Jeremy Thrush, while more are expected to follow suit.

Franks, who can play on both sides of the scrum, has collected 42 caps for the All Blacks and has played in 41 tests. He made his debut for the All Blacks during their outing against Irish club side Munster in 2008 and played his first test against Ireland in New Plymouth in 2010.

His brother Owen is a tighthead prop for the All Blacks.
