Otago Rugby Football Union chief executive Richard Reid, who dismisses as conjecture a claim on the Rugby Heaven website that Hayman plans an immediate return to New Zealand and is interested in playing for Taranaki.
"I don't think it is accurate," Reid said.
"Carl may be interested in returning to New Zealand but I think it is drawing a long bow to say that he would settle in New Plymouth."
Reid talked with Hayman when he was in New Zealand in June and has kept in email contact with him since.
Reid's view is that Hayman will not return to New Zealand rugby until he has completed his three-year Newcastle contract, which ends in mid 2010.
"But if he came home early we would certainly welcome him back to Otago."
All Black coaching staff and New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Steve Tew said they had heard rumours about Hayman's return during the Grand Slam tour.
Rugby Heaven stated that despite news the English club is in financial strife, Newcastle claims Hayman will stay on in England and finish his playing contract.
Taranaki is interested because Hayman (29) was born in Opunake.
