Rugby: Ross, Sweeney back for Chiefs

The Chiefs have made two changes to their starting XV for a Super 15 match against the Hurricanes in Hamilton on Friday night, with the inclusion of Dwayne Sweeney and Isaac Ross.

Sweeney, who came off the reserves bench in the 16-11 win over New Zealand conference leaders the Blues in Auckland last weekend, replaces veteran Tana Umaga at second five-eighth.

Umaga went off early in the second half at Eden Park with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Ross replaces Romana Graham at lock.

The match at Waikato Stadium pits the two sides at the bottom of the conference, with the Hurricanes one point ahead of the Chiefs.

However, both go in with last-up wins under their belt, with the Hurricanes beating the Lions 38-17 in Wellington for their second successive victory.

"Both teams are bringing recent momentum into this game so it promises to be a tough contest," Chiefs coach Ian Foster said today.

"The New Zealand derbies are keenly fought and this game will be no exception."

Chiefs: Mils Muliaina (captain), Lelia Masaga, Richard Kahui, Dwayne Sweeney, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Stephen Donald, Brendon Leonard, Fritz Lee, Tanerau Latimer, Liam Messam, Isaac Ross, Craig Clarke, Nathan White, Hika Elliot, Ben May. Reserves: Aled de Malmanche, Toby Smith, Culum Retallick, Matt Vant Leven, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Tim Nanai-Williams, Jackson Willison.
