Sonny Bill Williams
Possibly more polarising than Don Brash. Everyone has an opinion on the former Bulldog.
But SBW is one signature the national union will want to get.
The thing about Williams is one wonders just how far he can go and how good he can get.
That is at least one good reason to keep him here. His ability in the offload, to make the big play and to do the unexpected are three big qualities which should keep him in the Shaky Isles.
Remember when Otago played Canterbury at Carisbrook last year?
Plenty were there and it was not to see the Otago scrum. It was to see SBW in action. Whatever you say about him he is a star, and this is the entertainment business.
Piri Weepu
There may be McDonald's all over the world but the national union wants to keep Weepu going to the Wellington golden arches.
He may be in need of a trim down but on his game, and fit and healthy, Weepu has few peers on the field.
There are not many players in the game that can match Weepu's vision, pass and, most of all, his nous.
Remember when the All Blacks beat the Springboks in Wellington last year. Weepu was absolutely sensational all over the park that night.
Do overseas offers mean much to him?
The Wellington jersey and Weepu seem to go together.
And despite the claims of those in behind them, Weepu and Highlander Jimmy Cowan are clearly the best halfbacks in the country.
Owen Franks
For so long everyone worried over how to get Carl Hayman back. He seemed more vital to the New Zealand cause than any free trade agreement.
But he has quickly been forgotten as Franks has steamed into view. Rock solid on the tighthead side, he appears to have a back which simply refuses to buckle.
Having blown out 23 candles on his birthday cake only late last year, it appears unlikely he will want to head overseas too soon.
But his sort of ability would get him truckloads of gold in places like France.
The scrum and the ability to have a good one is still a cornerstone of the game.
Franks is a key man in that regard.
