Rugby: Tickets for Sth Africa test selling fast

Only about 4000 tickets remain available for the first test at Forsyth Barr Stadium involving the All Blacks.

Tickets for residents south of the Waitaki River went on sale yesterday for the September 15 clash between New Zealand and South Africa, with more than 4000 sold by early afternoon.

Combined with strong pre-sales to ground members and Otago rugby club members, this means about 24,000 tickets have already been sold. The stadium has a capacity of 28,000.

About 3000 tickets remain for residents south of the Waitaki River, with the remaining 1000 tickets retained for public sale, starting on Monday.

Dunedin Venues Management Ltd commercial director Guy Hedderwick said he was pleased with the strong demand for the tickets.

Most of the category A and B tickets had been sold, although there was still a sprinkling left.

Category C tickets - those at either end of the ground - were still available.

However, once remaining tickets went on public sale throughout New Zealand on Monday, they would be in hot demand, he said.
