Whanganui first up

North Otago face a challenging start and appear set to play their home games at an unexpected venue in the Heartland Championship this season.

The Old Golds were yesterday drawn to play Whanganui in the opening round on August 16, followed by a home game against Wairarapa-Bush, the long haul to Ruatoria to play East Coast, and a home game against Meads Cup champions Thames Valley. Their other home games are against Poverty Bay and South Canterbury, and they play West Coast and Mid Canterbury away.

Whitestone Contracting Stadium is out of commission during the construction of the new event centre. The official draw shows North Otago hosting games at the A&P Showgrounds, where they famously beat the Wallabies in 1962. — APL
