The Dunedin swimmer produced an incredible 4 min 0.97 sec in the 400m freestyle to set a New Zealand open record at the South Island championships in Invercargill on Friday.
She trimmed more than 2sec off her own previous record of 4min 2.28 sec, which she set at the Tokyo Olympics, to win the South Island freestyle title.
The record pushed her up the all time international ranks to the eighth fastest 400m female freestyle swimmer — the top two spots are held by greats Ariarne Titmus and Katie Ledecky — and the second fastest 400m international time so far this year.
Fairweather continued to smash through the national records, breaking the 200m freestyle record on Saturday.
She swam a time of 1 min 56.73 sec, shaving 0.10 sec off the record record held by New Zealand Olympian Lauren Boyle, to win her second South Island title.
