
This time it was her own 400m IM girls’ 13-years mark that fell, her third record at the national short course swimming championships in Auckland.
The Neptune swimmer won yesterday’s race by nearly 10 seconds, in a time of 4min 55.18sec, to better the record of 4min 57.81sec she set earlier this year.
However, the record is yet to be ratified.The time saw her qualify fifth overall for the open finals in the event, which were held last night.
She was within a second of the the third and fourth fastest qualifiers and just over a second behind the next fastest.
Meanwhile Zenith’s Tame Govaerts-Paul had Otago’s first success in an open final at the championships.
He swam 2min 13.19sec to place third in the 200m breaststroke, edging out former Neptune swimmer Andrew Trembath, who is now representing North Shore.
Stefannie Gillespie continued the success for Zenith, taking gold in the women’s 19-and-over 800m freestyle in 8min 57.70sec.
That saw her qualify first for last night’s open finals.
Neptune’s Cecilia Crooks rounded out Otago’s gold medals for the day, winning a close women’s 16-years 400m IM.
She swam 4min 59.58sec to beat Jasi’s Kaylee Jackson by 0.22sec. Neptune swimmers Courtland Ellis, Jessica Scott and Molly Law all claimed silver medals.
Ellis swam 55.20sec to finish second in the 100m butterfly, qualifying fourth overall for the open final.
Meanwhile Scott had a time of 1min 02.78sec to finish second in the women’s 15-years race of the same event. Law was second in the women’s 15-years 800m freestyle in a time of 9min 09.81sec.
