Caitlin Deans has added a silver medal to her growing haul at the national championships in Auckland this week.

The Dunedin Olympian collected second spot in the 200m freestyle, going one better than the bronze she won in the 400m edition on Wednesday.

The Neptune swimmer built into yesterday’s race nicely and stormed home with a strong final 50m to record a time of 1min 58.71sec.

Former Dunedin swimmer Erika Fairweather set a New Zealand record on her way to gold in 1min 55.06sec.

‘‘I’m so stoked,’’ Fairweather said.

‘‘That’s the fastest I’ve ever been. It would’ve been nice to be a 1.54 — but that’s coming this season.’’

Aquablack Esme Paterson (Neptune) won silver in the women’s 200m butterfly in 2min 17.74sec.

Alfie Weatherston Harvey (Kiwi) won silver in the 17-18 years men’s 400m freestyle in 4min 02.18sec. He was fifth overall in the open event.

Neo Salomonsson (Kiwi) won gold in the 17-18 years men’s 100m butterfly in 54.37sec.

He was the fourth Kiwi home and fifth overall in the open event. Olympian Lewis Clareburt won in 52.69sec.

Lily McGrath (Neptune) came seventh in the women’s 100m breaststroke in 1min 13.62sec

The championships finish on Sunday.
