Otago clubs to fore at meet

Otago swimmers had a predictably strong outing at the Otago Anniversary long-course meet.

The Oamaru Swim Club led the way at Moana Pool with 27 first places, being particularly dominant in the younger age-groups.

Both Jorgia and Olli McDiarmid-Jones were among the most successful swimmers of the weekend.

Jorgia claimed four firsts and two seconds in the girls 12-13 grade, while Olli won all six of his races in the 11-and-under grade.

Tarona Taafaki cleaned up the girls side of the 11-and-under grade, winning nine races and finishing second in one.

Neptune was the next most successful of the Dunedin clubs, claiming 17 firsts.

National representative Caitlin Deans had a strong showing with four firsts and two seconds in the 16-and-over grade.

Erika Fairweather also had four wins and two seconds in the women's 14-15 grade, while Jessica Scott and Abi Gibson managed four and three firsts respectively.

Tame Govaerts-Paul was the best of the Zenith swimmers, winning the men's 16-and-over 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, accounting for three of the clubs six first places.

Benjamin Silipo was the best of the Wanaka swimmers with four firsts, while Harry Summers claimed three first and a second for Taieri.

Kiwi won four races, with Clara Peniamina claiming two of those.
