It was touch and go for a while, but the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra is delighted that its "Renewal — Tchaikovsky and Ritchie" concert can go ahead on September 19.

DSO general manager Philippa Harris said the Dunedin Town Hall concert would be held under Alert Level 2 guidelines — meaning the audience would be divided into four separate zones, with a maximum of 100 people in each.

Each zone will have its own entrance/exit and seating will be socially distanced.

There are just fewer than 400 tickets available for the concert.

"It will be a very different concert experience for everyone, but it is great that we are still able to give our audience an orchestral concert," Ms Harris said.

The concert will be conducted by Marc Taddei and New Zealand violin soloist Amalia Hall.

It will feature the world premiere performance of Dunedin composer Anthony Ritchie’s Symphony No. 5 ‘Childhood’ and Tchaikovsky’s much loved Violin Concerto.

Bookings can be made via Ticketmaster or at the Regent Theatre.
