Swimmers test out the new pools at Mosgiel’s Te Puna o Whakaehu complex, which was officially opened on Monday.

The $19.2 million complex, at 215 Gordon Rd, was funded through a community fundraising drive, which raised $4million, with the Dunedin City Council topping up the rest.

The complex includes five pools — an 8-lane 25m lap pool, a leisure pool for recreational play, a learn-to-swim pool, hydrotherapy pool and spa pool.

Local drive for a new aquatic centre began in 2008, and was led by the Taieri Community Facilities Trust, chaired by Irene Mosley.

There will be a Mosgiel pool party on Saturday, from 10.30am-3pm, with free entry to the facility from 7am-7pm.

The pool’s regular opening hours will be Monday to Friday, 6am-8pm; Saturday and Sunday, 7am-7pm.
