Lesley Procter and Ryan Stewart have each collected four gold medals from the International Powerlifting Federation Commonwealth Championships 2022, which took place in Auckland recently.
Stewart competed in the men's Special Olympics event category in the 59kg class.
He grabbed gold for squats, bench and deadlifts, as well as a gold medal for overall performance.
Stewart has been training for about 10 years.
Trainer Jeff Leckie said Stewart was particularly proud of beating the world champion in his class, Daniel McGauley, of England.
Stewart is also competing in the Freemasons New Zealand Special Olympics National Summer Games which opens in Hamilton today.
Next year he will take part in the Special Olympics World Games.
"And that is in Berlin, " Stewart said.
Lesley Procter competed in the women’s 60-to-69 master 3 category.
"My weight class is 76kg."
She came away with the same four gold medals as Stewart; gold for squats, bench, deadlifts and for overall performance.
Training is a family affair for Procter.
She trains with her son Jeff Leckie at CrossFit Uncut in Fryatt St.
Leckie said he was very proud of both of his athletes.
"They both put the work in."
