NZ Post major sponsor

New Zealand Post has come on board as a major sponsor of the Shop Kaikoura initiative.

Dunedin woman Ina Kinski, who is the driving force behind the project, said the company would make the cost of shipping goods out of the earthquake-affected town "as cheap as chips".

Shop Kaikoura aimed at encouraging people to do their Christmas shopping in the town.  Customers book a time with a personal shopper and then agree on a video or photo-sharing method before beginning their shopping experience.

Ms Kinski said she was delighted with the support shown by New Zealand Post after meeting a representative in Kaikoura this week.

While difficult to estimate the value of products sold since Shop Kaikoura was launched, there had been some "really big sales" of goods worth more than $300, she said.

At the moment, her biggest problem was getting enough personal shoppers to cope with demand. They were usually either university students home on holiday or young foreigners in the area on a working holiday.
