Police have named the man who died in a crash on State Highway 1 just north of Ashburton on Monday.

He was Bradley Larter, 28, of Ashburton.

The two-vehicle crash on the Rakaia Highway (State Highway 1) was reported just after 5am on Monday.

Police said one person died at the scene and two other people were seriously injured.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
