With less than a day until nominations close, multiple positions around council and community board tables in South Canterbury are yet to be filled.
Local body election nominations close at noon tomorrow, but as of noon on Tuesday elections were guaranteed only for a few seats, while many others had yet to attract enough to fill the seats available.
While an election for the mayoralty was guaranteed in the Timaru, Waimate and Mackenzie districts, many of the wards and community board seats are uncontested.
In Timaru, the Geraldine ward (one vacancy) and Geraldine Community Board (six vacancies) positions were yet to receive a nomination, the Geraldine Licensing Trust (six vacancies) is three nominations short, the Temuka Community Board (five vacancies) is one nomination short and the Pleasant Point Community Board (five vacancies) has only one nomination.
The Timaru ward (six vacancies) has seven nominations, and the Pleasant Point-Temuka ward (two vacancies) has three nominations.
In the Mackenzie district, the Pukaki ward (three vacancies), Twizel Community Board (four vacancies) and Fairlie Community Board (four vacancies) had all only received one nomination while the Tekapo Community Board (four vacancies) was yet to receive a nomination.
The Tekapo ward (one vacancy) had received two nominations and the Opuha ward (three vacancies) had received four nominations.
In Waimate, the Hakataramea-Waihaorunga ward (one vacancy) and Lower Waihao ward (one vacancy) were yet to receive a nomination and the Waimate ward (four vacancies) had only received three nominations.
The Pareora-Otaio-Makikihi ward (two vacancies) had received three nominations and the Environment Canterbury South Canterbury/Ōtuhituhi regional constituency (two vacancies) had received two nominations.
