It is unclear how much longer the Dunedin City Council’s application for a proposed landfill south of the city will remain on hold.

The city council’s application for the proposed Brighton landfill has been in limbo since last year when the Otago Regional Council asked for more information.

Yesterday, regional council consents manager Joanna Gilroy said her team had finished reviewing the additional information provided by the city council at the end of May.

Overall, the majority of the matters included in the further information request had been satisfied, she said.

However, there were still technical matters to be clarified, and some requested information still had to be supplied. Until this was provided, the application would remain on hold.

No notification decision had been made yet, she said.

"We anticipate establishing a timeframe for further information to be supplied with the applicant over the coming days," she said.

Saddle Hill Community Board chairman Scott Weatherall has urged the city council to look for another landfill site amid widespread community concern.

In March, Mr Weatherall said any further delays to the process should put an end to the proposal.

When the city council supplied the further information, it also dramatically reduced the size of the proposed landfill to reduce its environmental impact.
