An inspection is carried out where St Clair Beach is shored up by sand sausages, as well as the sea wall.

Dunedin City Council staff and contractors visited the beach site yesterday morning.

Some sandbags, in front of the sand sausages, were displaced by heavy swells last week, but will be repositioned and secured in the next fortnight.

Other debris would be tidied up at the same time, city council transport delivery manager Ben Hogan said.

The council was still assessing damage to a set of stairs at the sea wall and they remained closed for now.

Mr Hogan said that work was separate from a new stairway access to be added near the Long Dog Cafe.
