West Coast flora is the subject of an exhibition at the Forrester gallery by former Otago secondary school art teacher Barry Walsh.

Mr Walsh, who attended the Ilam School of Fine Art, taught art in secondary schools, including Gore High School, Kings High School and Waitaki Girls High School.

He left teaching in 2000 and moved from Oamaru to the West Coast to paint full-time.

He has had several solo exhibitions including Over the Hill at the Forrester Gallery in 2004.

Mr Walsh has won four national art awards and his works are held in private and public collections, including the Forrester, throughout New Zealand and the United States.

The exhibition is in the community gallery at the Forrester Gallery until January 18.
