Few of us get to see the grandeur of Fiordland beyond the Milford road or Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri, but Roger Wandless and John Hall-Jones' photographic book, Fiordland: Landscape and life: Exploring New Zealand's last great wilderness (www.rogerwandless.co.nz) takes you right into the wilderness.
Wandless' stunning photographs are taken from air, water and on foot, capturing both the misty moodiness, the snow-capped glory, vast views from mountaintops and the remoteness of the region. Hall-Jones has written brief introductions to each section - Coastlines, Fiords, Mountains, Hinterland and Life, which includes mention of some of the living legends of the area such as helicopter pilots, radio operators and deer hunters. A good souvenir from a memorable visit or a gift for friends.
