CD review: Asgier

The latest musical export from Iceland (following Bjork, Sigur Ros, Of Monsters and Men . . . ), Asgeir Trausti might play acoustic guitar but he reveals he is more than a twee folk troubadour on his debut album, actually his sophomore effort given it is an English-language version of his original release.

Translated by American songwriter John Grant, In the Silence is at its best when Asgeir's formidable guitar technique is tempered by keyboard bleeps and pulses and down-tempo rhythmic loops, allowing the singer's high-pitched voice to convey a subtle melancholy and paint a picture of the sun shining at midnight.

  • Asgeir. In the Silence. One Little Indian. 4 stars (out of 5)
