CD reviews: Busby Marou

Wondered what happened to Evermore’s Jon Hume?

The Kiwi guitarist is now a music producer with a studio in rural Victoria, The Stables. It’s where Queensland duo Tom Busby and Jeremy Marou headed to record this, their album. And it’s OK, if you have a taste for prime-time radio pop. Then again, if you’re over the age of 14, this set of jangling, acoustic guitar-based tunes might wear thin pretty quickly.

Yes, there is craft at play here (take the deft staccato wordplay of Drink The World Dry), yet all this shiny-bright sunshine threatens to shrivel, rather than stimulate, the soul.
