CD Reviews: Tami Neilson

Once again, Tami Neilson demonstrates how Canada's loss has been our gain.

Celebrating love and life in general with a group of friends and troubadours, including Marlon Williams and Delaney Davidson, the Auckland-based singer-songwriter alternately glides and powers her bell-like vocal chords over material firmly encamped in traditional Americana.

In ranging from Motown-infused blues shuffles such as (Walk) Back to Your Arms and Dynamite to a few old-school country tunes, including Honey Girl, Neilson reveals not only her consummate singing ability but a deep understanding of what drives a good song. And that's soul.

  • Tami Neilson. Dynamite. Southbound.
  • 4 star out of 5.
