On the floor: Fast-moving current

Some people in this world are busy, and Riverblind's frontman Dave Kempton seems to be right up there with the busiest.

Riverblind has been around about four years, according to Kempton.

"[We] formed the group in 2006 with now ex-Strike member and co-director, Tim Whitta. He moved on to the UK in 2007. He left some pretty big shoes to fill [and] we were relieved to find [percussionist] Stefan [Sarten]."

This is a run-down of what Kempton has going on in his musical life.

"I'm actually a full-time student again at the NZ School of Music, studying jazz guitar [and] I get a lot of orchestral pit work for the NZ Ballet and the NBR NZ Opera through the Vector Wellington Orchestra.

"It's all evening work, so I'm studying during the day ... Let's just say I work for some very patient and understanding people! I play in a Motown soul covers band, The Central band of the RNZAF and the NZSM big band on top of that, too."

Riverblind is: Kempton (guitars, trumpet and vocals); Dan Simpson (bass guitar and vocals); Stefan Sarten (drums, percussion and vocals).

Kempton says the band recently finished an album and he is looking forward to sharing some songs that will be new to most audiences.

"Last summer and this year so far has been a very creative period for us . . .

We're all very excited about the new material, much of which we will be performing for the first time on this tour."

Kempton is planning to have a bit of a break after the show down here.

"I, personally, will be sleeping for a week.

I've just finished back-to-back seasons of Miss Saigon and The Marriage of Figaro, followed by four big-band gigs in one week and Riverblind's tour.

I also will have my second-to-last university exam for the semester the day before we leave."
