Arts Laureate Moana Maniapoto tours the South next month with a tribute to the ocean.

The NZ Music Hall of Fame inductee celebrates New Zealanders' relationship to the ocean through a mix of music, myth and personal anecdote.

The Arts on Tour show My Name is Moana includes garage party classics as well as the inspiring songs Maniapoto has toured internationally during her career.

''We have travelled to some of the most exotic places on the planet,'' Maniapoto said. ''But the Arts on Tour 2017 journey around our own beautiful country was an absolute privilege. It was a reminder, too, of the passion people have for reclaiming the health of our waterways.''

Moana and the Moahunters' 1993 album Tahi was recently named by Independent Music NZ as the recipient of the 2019 Classic Record award, which acknowledges New Zealand music albums that have stood the test of time. Songs from Tahi will feature on the tour.

Maniapoto is joined on tour by her sister, Trina, Paddy Free and guitarist Cadzow Cossar.

The tour stops in Twizel on May 15, Bannockburn on May 16, Hawea on May 17 and Arrowtown on May 18.
