Kiwi songstress Lorde has been busy wowing US fans, and it appears to be working - she's become the first woman in 17 years to top Billboard's Alternative Songs Chart.

Lorde, 16, topped the charts with her hit song Royals, The Huffington Post reported.

Other songs in the top 10 include Imagine Dragon's Radioactive and Daft Punk's Get Lucky.

The chart hasn't been topped by a woman since Tracy Bonham's Mother Mother in 1996, Huffington reported.

Lorde has been in the US performing a series of showcases on the back of the release of Royals.

At one show, tickets were reportedly going for $120.

Her celebrity fans include Grimes, Ryan Seacrest, Selena Gomez and Carly Rae Jepsen.
