"And the staff at Te Punaka Ōwheo, Otago Polytechnic’s Māori centre, are amazing. They really care. The atmosphere is warm and friendly.“ - Tiffany Ngawhika
Tiffany Ngawhika was pleasantly surprised to discover she was eligible for a Mātāwaka Scholarship. Awarded to Māori students who whakapapa outside the Kāi Tahu rōhe and are studying at Otago Polytechnic, the Mātāwaka Scholarship has been developed between Otago Polytechnic and local Kāi Tahu rūnaka, and covers one year of tuition fees.

Tiffany (Te Arawa, Te Aupōuri), who grew up near Kaitaia and is in the second year of a Bachelor of Applied Management, is hard at work studying a double major in sales and marketing, and event management.

"The first year covered general business management, but this year you get to specialise in certain areas.

"I’m looking forward to next year, too, because you get to do an internship. I’d like to work with Dunedin Venues Management Ltd (DVML), who plan all the events at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

"I really like dealing with people, organising and planning events.”

Tiffany says he "really enjoys” the learning style at Otago Polytechnic.

"The lecturers are really approachable and supportive.
