Two Dunedin food writers have won awards in the 2009 Culinary Quill Awards, the two-yearly awards organised by the NZ Guild of Food Writers.
The Non-Recipe Book of the Year category has been won by University of Otago professor Helen Leach for The Pavlova Story (Otago University Press), described by the judges as an outstanding example of culinary history.
The Gastronomy Award was won by Otago Daily Times food writer Charmian Smith for "Following a Fragrant Trail", a feature about spices in India, published on April 2 last year (go to www.odt.co.nz and search for "fragrant trail".)

Recipe Book of the Year: Alexa Johnston, Auckland, Ladies a Plate.
Electronic Media Award: Food in a Minute.
Educational, Health and Nutrition Award: Glenda Gourley, Tauranga,
Food Styling Award: Ginny Grant, Auckland, Raspberry Ripple Semifreddo Slider.
Tui Flower Recipe Award: Ray McVinnie, Auckland, Off the Hook.
Emerging Food Writer: Virgil Evetts (Auckland) for A Very Special Blossom, which examines the free range debate.
