'70s outfits out of closet

The New Zealand Fashion Museum's ''Seventies'' exhibition later in the year is bound to be a show-stopper and to make it happen organisers need help from the New Zealand public who may have some '70s treasures still lurking in their wardrobes.

A lithe and languid silhouette clad in an abundance of colour and print was the fashion then, for women as well as for men.

It was an exciting time to be in fashion and because men's clothing was so flamboyantly colourful and androgynous in the '70s Doris de Pont, the museum's director, is hoping some of it has survived.

These might be some serious flares, maybe even a pair of Boss Bella Brava jeans which were 60cm wide at the hem, or a stylish pair from Superstud.

Or it could be a fabulous fitted shirt or suit in purple from Beau Brummel or His Lordships. Or does anyone have something with a Fotheringay, Miss Deb, Paraphernalia, Sonny, Peppertree or Hullabaloo label, or maybe something from some of the small designer boutiques? I

f you have a 1970s treasure safely stored somewhere now is the time to let it shine.

Send in its story and images to doris@fashionmuseum.org.nz or phone 021 680-860 for more information.
