Bel Cibo is one of those few restaurants that has come from nowhere and is about to challenge some of Dunedin's great restaurants with their Italian inspired food.

Bel Cibo (pronounced ‘Bell Chee-bo') recently had their pre-opening which brought in business people, bankers, lawyers and other professionals who were curious about what this new restaurant had to offer, where Bel Cibo put on bites and dishes.

They also launched their Grand Opening to the public which was well received also.

The creators behind Bel Cibo wanted to design an inner-city style bistro that had a relaxed feel yet also had a pinch of formality.

This required a re-design of the venue and more importantly a strong focus on selecting the right people who were talented enough to carry out the Bel Cibo mission.

Even though this space was known by another name this was not going to be one of those typical facelift and logo re-design jobs that often happens, this is a completely new offering from the ground up with new chefs, almost an entirely new team, new management and of course new menu.

The Chefs have diverse backgrounds and have spent a lot of time and energy researching their cuisine and this seems to make their food a little different to what you'll typically experience here in Dunedin. The team is friendly and have been trained on every dish along with the wine selection which are mostly Italian.

The pizzas, grills and pastas are designed by the Chefs at Bel Cibo so you'll experience full flavoured dishes that you find elsewhere.

Bel Cibo has Italian wine that you won't find at your supermarket, in fact you're unlikely to find it anywhere else. They do of course have handpicked a few central Otago wines for visitors who come in from other countries.

If you can appreciate great food or want to know what good food tastes like then mark Bel Cibo down as your must try place to eat.
