Blinds are becoming increasingly popular as a window-dressing option to address the problem of fading.
"There is a lot of people going to blinds," says Arthur Kinnaird, of Dunedin's Aquapaintz, a stockist of various blinds.
The benefits of using blinds was five-fold, he added.
"They are space saving as they sit inside the window. They are trendy. They don't date either, and 10 years down the track they'll still look good.
"And, of course, price comes into it, and they are easy to clean."
Gaining more and more popularity are Thermacell honeycomb blinds. The blinds' insulation properties include a high heat-retention rating because of their honeycomb design. Air is trapped in the honeycomb, creating an effective barrier against cold windows and draughts. The blinds also filter light through and block out sunlight to prevent fading.
"Its heat retention, fashionable looks, as well as the tighter fit in the sides means not so big a gap as other blinds," says Mr Kinnaird.
Maintenance requires simply using a damp cloth. The spun-lace fabric is also washable.
The simplicity of sunscreen blinds is also attractive, and they filter light to prevent fading.
"You can see out but people can't see in. But you can still get the views," says Mr Kinnaird.
